Engineering is a term that is used very often in every department of life. Man today uses gadgets that have been scientifically manufactured to support his day to day actions. For instance; Telephone is a simple gadget that connects our communication from one person to another. This was invented by Alexander Graham Bell. Technology has never remained stagnant; we have come across many versions of telephone in the last 2 centuries namely the 18th and 19th centuries. Today we use wireless telephones, mobiles, Bluetooth connectivity and many more. Hence, this acts as a perfect example of evolution of engineering in the field of electronic goods. Similarly there are other such instruments, machines, utility products, movable products, electronic devices etc that are way beyond our imagination with respect to their performance and service. It is engineering that is responsible to make these possible and work, in order to support our purpose.So, let’s see different types of engineering degrees.
What is engineering?
If you combine, technology, science, mathematics you get ‘Engineering’. Engineering is a technique involved in creating a product that gives you an end to end solution to perform an activity. This activity could be designed to support a complete action of course or just to perform a part of course in the whole process. Invention of new techniques, gadgets, products, systems etc is part of engineering. The products that have been in use created by the methods of engineering today are highly advanced and technically sound.
Having said this, let us now get deep into the ocean of engineering divisions which is making way for the production of beautiful products in varied fields of our life. There are ideally six branches of engineering and they are:

List of Different Types of Engineering Degrees:
1. Mechanical Engineering:
Mechanical systems that we use today are nothing but a compilation of mechanical power and heat that are designed and analyzed for the functioning of a machine or mechanical system. Well, it is one of the widest branches in engineering as it focuses on material science, kinematics, thermodynamics, etc to assist manufacturing units, nuclear power production etc. Most of our products are made with the usage of these components and every new creation in this field gives birth to a new invention to make life much simpler and easier. Hence it is considered as one of the widest branches of Engineering.
2. Chemical engineering:
Mechanisms or technology that uses chemicals explains the term chemical engineering. As the name suggests this engineering degree relates to those products or units that involve use of chemicals for processing. It is a typical chemical related study that supports technology to solve problems. Some of the day to day examples of this study are; cosmetics, medicines, beverages, processed/preserved food therapy, cleaners, fertilizers etc.
3. Civil Engineering:
The infrastructure we use such as buildings, railways, roads, constructions, homes, water supply, electricity supply, etc are all related to Civil engineering. Civil means the basic ground level mechanism that is constructed for the purpose of serving general public. Constructing layouts, installing water supply pipes, making way for electricity supply, engineering of layout plans etc come under the branch Civil engineering.
4. Electrical Engineering:
As the name suggests electrical engineering means the study which involves mechanism of creating energy products or electrical devices using natural or man-made resources. The combination of electromagnetism with electronics forms Electrical engineering study. The solar power generation, computer technologies, inductors, adapters, IC units (used for computers and tv’s ), transmitters, generators, motors etc fall into the category of Electrical Engineering.
5. Geotechnical Engineering:
Petroleum engineering, Geological engineering, Nuclear engineering, Marine engineering, Photonics engineering , physics engineering, Nanotechnology engineering, Ceramics engineering, Mining engineering, Metallurgical engineering and Geo-matics engineering.
Geotechnical Engineering is a study of extracting, analyzing and exploring the raw materials available from Earth. This includes water bodies like oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers etc; mining areas such as mountains, rocks, hills, etc; extracts from forests and many such resources pertaining to geological nature of earth. Our daily usage of fuels such as petrol, diesel, kerosene, etc is all part of Geotechnical engineering study. This study mainly involves research in the extracts gained and analyzing the utility point of view, without hindering the natural process of a purpose or without affecting the nature. As mentioned above, the list of sub-studies under this category has made the research of natural elements much easier and allows the students to know in depth knowledge of each division and their purpose.
6. Management Engineering:
Management engineering is a new concept that is included in the list of major engineering degrees. This study is about knowing how to manage the flow of engineering and also possessing the knowledge of that particular field of engineering subject. For instance, if you are in a manufacturing unit, as a Management Engineer student you need to know the technicalities of the process of manufacturing the unit and also know the flow of managing every level in the process. There is specialized management engineering degrees available in universities to support industries that look out for Engineer managers for a safe and smooth flow of the manufacturing unit or processing unit. Hence this is a combination of management studies and also the technical engineering study. Since there are many engineering degrees in the market, the student can specialize Management engineering study with his or her desired subject.
