2. Adequate Rest Time:

Another important right of an employee is to ask for proper rest time during the work day. As per the laws, there has to be at least half an hour to 1 hour break or rest period required for an employee during a working day. For this reason, some companies even offer a half an hour sleep time to their employees, as this expects to offer them both physical and mental rest, and hence, increase their productivity once they resume back to the work. Even if you have less hours of work during a day, still half an hour break is mandatory, irrespective of size of organization and its scale of operation.

3. Annual paid Holidays:

Employees would be glad to know that getting annual paid holidays is not a benefit but a right that they can ask from the company. Every company needs to fix a certain number of fixed holidays to the employee. The number of holidays may be as low as 12 holidays a year and can increase up to a great extent as per the company’s policies and rules. But 12 paid holidays in a year is mandatory and every employee has the right to ask or claim for it.

4. Fixed Working Hours:

Although, there are chances that an organization may want an employee to devote extra hours of work during a day or for few days against completion of an important project or meeting deadlines, but for this the organization has to pay the employee a sum of remuneration as an overtime pay. Other than this, each employee has the right to work for fixed hours during a work day. The hours may vary from 8hrs to 9hrs a day and may vary slightly depending on the company, but no employee is expected to work without getting paid for additional hours a day.

5. Medical Claim against accidents met in the company:

If an employee is offered with a safe working environment then there are less possibilities of experiencing any accident or mishap. But still, if an unexpected accident happens at the workplace, then employees have the right to claim the medical expenditure from the company. In fact, the company must make sure to meet all such expenditures of the employee related to accidents or mishaps occurring at the workplace.

6. Supply of stationary and other essentials:

From a pen to an office bag to a laptop, each stationary item, which is necessary to get the job done must be provided from the office, usually by the HR department. No employee must be expected to use his own personal belongings to complete the responsibilities related to the organization.

7. Unfair Dismissal:

If your employer dismisses you from the job without a fair reason, then you are unfairly dismissed and you have the right to ask for a valid reason, or otherwise file a complaint to the Industrial Tribunal. An unfair dismissal happens when your employer doesn’t have a fair reason for dismissing you, or your employer does not follow the correct process to dismiss you, or you were dismissed without receiving full settlement amount. In such situations, you can always file a complaint against the organization.

8. Refusing to work during the holiday:

Lastly, employees have the complete right to work during paid holidays or during weekend holidays. Companies cannot force employees to render their services even during holiday period.

The roles and responsibilities of the employees define the efficiency and effectiveness of the employee’s work they perform.
